The original release date was 9 months after atsv which was a.) impossible to achieve b.) even trying to reach that date would be extremely traumatic for the workers

The “delayed indefinitely” just means it’s delayed for an unknown amount of time, due to the strikes. Since the voice actors and other staff are incapable of working on the movie until the strikes are finished

If I may add, the spiderverseovues have been big money makers, so delaying this movie is gonna hurt and make the execs want to cave

No single city, no group of cities has that population. The TOP 10 cities in the US have a combined population of 28 million. Out of 328. That’s roughly 8% of the population. 

If you add up EVERY SINGLE CITY with more than 100,000 people in it (Which is 311 cities), that’s still only 94 million. 28% of the US population.

So this idea that the popular vote would give power to just a few cities isn’t supported by the facts.

On the other hand: Two-thirds (273 of 399) of the general-election campaign events in the 2016 presidential race were in just 6 states(Florida, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Virginia, and Michigan).   94% of the 2016 events (375 of the 399) were in 12 states. While 24 States received 0 visits. Because of the winner-takes-all Electoral College system, candidates can ignore any state that is “safe” and instead completely focus on  big cities in swing states. 

Also, people aren’t worried about the urban vote. They are worried about the “urban” vote.

Also you know what if you have a democracy where 51 percent of the population actually lives in two cities, they should get to “decide” the head of state. When you have a democratic system, a numerical minority can only achieve results within it by finding allies in the numerical majority. That’s how shit works.

I think people who come at this issue in good faith are generally worried about like… local representation. When like… we *have* local representatives. Moving to a popular vote for President wouldn’t get rid of mayors and city councils and govenors.

A federal office, by definition, can’t fill the niche for local representatives, and pretending like it can doesn’t help anyone.
